It easily fits in my purse and the smaller sections of my book bag. So remarkably detailed and invaluable that I feel like I have learned so so much beyond expectation. Wood on Sep 28, My Art History department adopted this book as its official style-manual a few years ago, and we assign it as a textbook for our writing and methodology class.
After looking around for a bit, I settled for this one, which appeared to have the most interesting contents and best reviews. Examinations, Revising a Review, and Thesis Statement. It gives example essays I am often asked for examples.
Written in a concise and clear language, this book is clearly aimed at art students, and is great for those, like me, who have some kind of background in art but who are just starting to write.
Using a narrative style, the text is its own example of good analytical writing. The points and guidelines presented can be applied to any kind of writing, not just art criticism.
I read this book in the hopes that it would help me to better understand art. Your textbook must be in good, general, re-sellable condition. Since it's short and I have a couple short papers to write for a current art history class I figured it would be good idea to read it again.
As an aside, this book is one included in Sylvan's the short guide series. Gives exact details on how to write a thesis statement.
Packed with useful information. Odd size not expected By Art History Student on Mar 04, I was surprised by how small the book was and the binding of the book. Click on the "My Carts" link and it will lead you to the page with all of your carts. On the other end of the spectrum, I have come across texts that not only deepened my understanding of the artworks, but also made me appreciate things I would normally never cast a second glance at.
Not only a really good reference book, but a great read. Until then, this is a superb guide. By whose standard do we deem the value of a piece of art work? In general, it's a smart book that should be helpful for students taking any sort of liberal arts class requiring extensive writing.
